World Athletics Championships 2025 LIVE Updates: Neeraj Chopra’s title defence at the World Athletics Championships 2025 ended in sheer disappointment as the defending champion finished eighth in the men’s javelin final at the Japan National Stadium in Tokyo, the same venue where he had scripted history by winning the Olympic gold in 2021.

The men’s javelin final has begun in Tokyo as Neeraj Chopra defends his World Athletics C’ship title against the likes of Julian Weber and Arshad Nadeem. Both Chopra and Nadeem advanced smoothly from qualification on Wednesday. This has set up the first Worlds final between the pair since last year’s Olympics in Paris. Germany’s Juian Weber arrives with the season’s standout mark – 91.51m at the Zurich Diamond League on August 28. Anderson Peters, Jakub Vadlejch, and Keshorn Walcott deepen a field where an 85m plus in early rounds could quickly reshape the podium picture. Sachin Yadav has also made the final, giving India a second thrower in the medal round.

Since Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Neeraj Chopra has never returned without a medal from any event. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, the reigning Olympic champion, finished 10th. Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott won the gold medal with a season best attempt of 88.16m, while Grenada’s Anderson Peters was second with a best throw of 87.38m. USA’s Curtis Thompson was third with a best attempt of 86.67m.
