Chandigarh. The central government has released a second advance installment of ₹240 crore to Punjab under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the financial year 2025-26. This amount has been allocated for relief work in view of the recent flood situation in Punjab. Himachal Pradesh has also been allocated an advance installment of ₹198 crore. This amount has been provided to both states for disaster management and relief work.

The central government has directed the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to immediately deposit this amount into the state government’s account to ensure its timely use for disaster management and relief operations. The release of this amount was based on the recommendation of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The letter clarifies that the funds will be used in accordance with the SDRF and NDRF guidelines, which are based on the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission.

Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian has appealed to the central government to release Rs 151 crore under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) to desilt cultivable land in Punjab’s border districts. Addressing the Krishi Sammelan-2025 on Rabi Season Crops, chaired by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi on Tuesday, Khudian said the recent floods have caused extensive damage to cultivable land and standing crops.
