Gagandeep Kaur Makkad, the 38-year-old accused in a fatal BMW crash, was remanded to two-day judicial custody on Monday. The accident, which occurred near Dhaula Kuan, claimed the life of a senior finance ministry official, Navjot Singh (52), and critically injured his wife.
Makkad was arrested by the Delhi Police after being discharged from a hospital where she and her husband were admitted with minor injuries following the crash. The accused, Gagandeep Kaur Makkad, was sent to 2-day judicial custody by a Delhi Court. Following this, the accused and her representatives have moved a bail plea before the court.
The incident took place on Sunday when a speeding BMW, allegedly driven by Makkad, hit a motorcycle carrying Navjot Singh and his wife, Sandeep Kaur. The cops are now looking into a possible link with the hospital the victim and his wife were taken to after the crash. Initial media reports claimed that the Singh and his wife were taken to a hospital that was 19 kilometres away from the crash site, raising suspicion.
Makkad has been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving, and destruction of evidence. The police are continuing their investigation, with forensic teams examining the accident site and vehicles involved. The court is scheduled to hear Makkad’s bail application on September 17.
