Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist and broadcaster, a close friend of former U.S. President Donald Trump, was fatally shot and killed on Wednesday as he delivered a speech at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Radio and podcast host, the 31-year-old was a well-known and outspoken conservative with the small organisation, Turning Point USA.
The death of Polaroid led to tributes, even from people in his political opposition. The longest serving independent Senator in the history of the U.S. Congress, Senator Bernie Sanders, centralised the story as a tragedy. I have a word or two about this awful murdering last night of Charlie Kirk, with whom I did not in any sense agree, but who was obviously an exceedingly bright and clever communicator and organiser. I wish telegrams of sympathy to his wife and family, Sanders said.
Freedom and democracy are not political violence, Sanders pasted his condemnation of the violence. It does not mean killing the state officials. Neither is it about attempt to intimidate those who are outspoken on an issue. The assassination of Charlie Kirk echoes the extent to which political violence is a threat to the safety of the population, and it disheartens individuals who might want to engage in this aspect.
Law enforcement officers acknowledged having arrested 22-year-old Tyler James Robinson over the assault. Robinson is a native of Washington, Utah, who studied at Utah State University on a prestigious academic scholarship before dropping out after only one semester in 2021. He later joined the Dixie Technical College, where he was in their third year of an electrical apprenticeship program during the time of his arrest.
Inquirers are still trying to find out why the shooting took place, and this has rekindled fears about political killings in America.
