On Wednesday, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, affirmed that there were approximately 200 nationals of Telugu in Nepal, and that there is civil unrest, and that Minister Nara Lokesh had been assigned the responsibility of tracking the situation in Nepal closely. In response to the Super Six Super Hit meeting, Naidu revealed the need for the state government to take care of its people in bad moments.
There are demonstrations taking place in Nepal, and some 200 Telugu people are caught up there. I have directed the HRD Minister Nara Lokesh to keep a check on the situation in real-time governance. Our responsibility is to act and support our people in such a problematic situation, Naidu said.
To address the crisis, the Andhra Pradesh government has come up with an Emergency Cell at Andhra Bhavan in New Delhi to offer aid to the Telugu population in Nepal caught in the crisis. According to Andhra Bhavan Commissioner Arja Srikanth, the Chief Minister instructed Union Minister of Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu and Bhavan authorities to offer all assistance to the needy people.
The Emergency Cell has the responsibility of organizing relief: food, accommodation, and medical assistance. The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has confirmed that they will give their full cooperation and officials are at the moment helping approximately 30 Telugu nationals in Bafal, Kathmandu. The emergency nodal officer at Andhra Bhavan has also been appointed in order to facilitate easy communication as well as prompt intervention.
Srikanth further indicated that the TDP state government is always in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian embassy in Kathmandu to keep a check on the happenings and the well-being of their Telugu citizens. This is a proactive strategy to provide stranded nationals with urgent help and to put the safety and well-being of the stranded in the forefront in the face of the current unrest in Nepal.
