On Friday, Congress party leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi had moved around facing protests in Darbhanga of Bihar in his Voter Adhikar Yatra. Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) workers protested by displaying black flags to him over some derogatory comments they claimed to be made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a Mahagathbandhan rally in the city. Other demonstrators even tried climbing onto the vehicle of Rahul as it is captured in a video by ANI.

Interestingly, rather than responding with anger, Rahul Gandhi was spotted waving the protestors to come to him and thereafter handing them candies with an effort of cooling down the situation.

In his Darbhanga incident, Rahul had also spoken at a rally in Arrah where he stepped up his attack on the BJP regarding what he referred to as vote chori. He condemned special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls that were going on in Bihar terming it as an assault on the Constitution and democracy. In his view, the exercise was meant to take away the right to vote by the Dalits, minority and the women.

Rahul cautioned that Congress would not allow the BJP and the Election Commission of India to play with voter lists and the Voter Adhikar Yatra would become a countrywide movement to defend the rights of citizens. He further charged the NDA with having earlier-stealed votes in Maharashtra and elsewhere.

In the meantime the situation worsened in Bihar with BJP and Congress supporters fighting in Patna. The confrontation was after a video was circulated in which one person is seen to have made an obscene remark against PM Modi at a rally in Darbhanga. Mohammad Rizvi alias Raza was then arrested in Darbhanga district at Singhwara.

The episode left people with some serious responses and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah wanted Rahul Gandhi to apologize.
