Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari, one of the Vice Chiefs of the India Air Force, on Saturday released new footage and other undisclosed information about Operation Sindoor, a precision military operation launched by the Indians in May against terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistani-controlled Kashmir (PoK). The strikes were the direct reaction to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that took the lives of 26 people.

Air Marshal Tiwari says that the Indian Air Force employed fewer than 50 weapons to effectively accomplish its strategic goals and force Pakistan to accept a truce. “Out of the list of sets displayed, we had many sets of targets. At last, we reduced them to nine. We did not even need more than 50 weapons to achieve the elimination of conflicts,” he explained.

He stressed the fact that the highest leadership in India had provided three explicit directives to the armed forces, which included: response was to be decisive and visible, a message needed to be sent to prevent further attacks, and the military was to be given total operational freedom, with the expectation that a full-scale conventional war might erupt.

The Operation Sindoor strikes were initiated early in May 7 and were a precision strike against terror infrastructure. In response, Pakistan tried to attack Indian military installations on May 8, 9, and 10, but these were all countered by intense Indian retaliation and attacks, such as drones, missiles, on Pakistani military installations.

That fierce four-day interaction came to an end on May 10 when the two nations agreed to cease hostilities. Air Marshal Tiwari emphasized the fact that the operation revealed the capability of India to carry out rapid, accurate, and limited military operations at the expense of neutralizing the threats without losing control of the escalation.

Operation Sindoor is currently being considered as a study example in contemporary military tactics that integrates accuracy in targeting with measured political communication.
