It has sparked another controversy between Anuppur district in Madhya Pradesh and a political event in Darbhanga in Bihar. A hot tempered matter surfaced during a rally being held in Congress held in Darbhanga when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was allegedly abused. Shortly thereafter Congress leaders and supporters were circulating a photo on social media stating that it was a BJP worker who had thrown abuses on the Prime Minister.
Nevertheless, studies have found out otherwise. The photo-viral patient is not related to the incident in Darbhanga. Rather he is a BJP worker in Pachkhura a small village in Anuppur district, Madhya Pradesh. The individual mentioned in the viral messages is the son of Gulsher Muhammad, Nek Muhammad, who has publicly complained about how his image is being abused.
In the comment about the issue, the Nek Muhammad said that his photo was purposefully taken on his personal social media page and distributed with the use of several fake IDs and false statements. He says this was meant to bring his image into bad light and deceive people into linking him with statements that he had never made.
BJP worker has also lodged a complaint in the local police, and has requested stringent measures over those who had circulated his photo with false allegations. He has emphasized that such actions not only tarnish the image of an individual but they also disseminate wrong information among the masses.
This episode indicates again the threats of misinformation and political propaganda on social media platforms. Elections and political tension in the country are at a high rate, therefore the dissemination of false images and false statements is likely to confuse the citizens with ease. The government will also probe into the case and prosecute anybody who is involved in the distribution of the falsified claims.
