In a dramatic late-night action, police thwarted a conspiracy to kill Haryanavi pop singer Rahul Yadav, better known as Fazilpuria. Five gunmen associated with a criminal gang were intercepted near Wazirpur village on the Pataudi-Gurugram road in the early hours of Wednesday. Officials reported that the group was plotting an assassination of the singer who had already coped with an earlier attempt on his life.
As police units went in to halt the suspects, the assailants opened fire, and an exchange of almost 18 shots ensued. In the gunfight, four suspects were shot in the legs while trying to escape. They have been taken directly to Sector-10A Civil Hospital in Gurugram to be treated. A fifth accused, Gautam, also surrendered on the spot, and he was arrested. He is also under interrogation to divulge more information on the plot of the gang.
Deputy Police Superintendent Preet Pal Sangwan said that the arrests were made in an encounter between 12:15 am and 12:45 am. He said the gunmen had also participated in an attack on Rahul Yadav on July 14 and the killing of his finance and close aide, Rohit Shokeen, on August 4. Researchers suspect that the group was motivated by a money-related argument of 5 crores between the singer and gangster Sunil Sardhaniya, who has been operating in a foreign country.
It was found out by the police sources that Sardhaniya had planned both the earlier attack and the murder of Shokeen, as she had intended to use the intimidation of him and financial pressure on Yadav. This newest scheme was viewed as another leg in a long-term crusade against the singer. Law Enforcement has promised that serious action will be taken as an ongoing investigation is made to follow the rest of the behind-the-scenes support crew that helped house the shooters.
