In view of the natural disasters like heavy rains, landslides and cloud bursts, the administration has taken precautionary steps in Jammu. Rivers in the Jammu region overflowed, with boulders, trees, and debris tumbling down slopes, killing at least 30 people in a landslide near the Vaishno Devi route in Katra. Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar has announced a lockdown from 8 pm to 8 am. People have been asked to stay within the four walls of the house.

Further, Ramesh Kumar appealed to the citizens to be cautious and cooperate with the administration. He clarified that the safety of the people is the top priority and for this reason it has been decided to ban the movement of people after 8 pm. It has been raining continuously in many areas of Jammu division for the past few days. Due to this the water level of rivers and drains is increasing rapidly. There have been incidents of waterlogging in many low-lying areas. At the same time, the continuous landslides and sudden cloud busts in the hilly areas have made the situation even more serious. In view of these circumstances, the administration has made it clear that going out unnecessarily can be extremely dangerous.

Earlier, a cloudburst has occurred in Doda and Kishtwar of Jammu and Kashmir. Cloudburst has been reported at many places in Doda and Kishtwar districts. Initial information shows that 4 people have died due to a cloudburst in Doda. Many houses got damaged due to a cloudburst in Thathri sub-division of Doda district. The death toll may increase.

This natural disaster caused widespread devastation in both districts. Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been closed due to debris on the roads. A rescue operation is going on. In view of heavy rains, the administration of the Jammu region has issued a helpline number to deal with the emergency. Many bridges were also washed away in the flash floods caused by a cloudburst in Bhalesha, Thathri and Marmat of Doda. Batote-Kishtwar National Highway (NH-244) has also been closed, due to which the movement of vehicles has come to a halt.
