The lawyers’ strike in Delhi will continue on Tuesday as well. The lawyers have announced that they will protest outside the court premises. Tarun Rana, Additional General Secretary of the Coordination Committee of all District Court Bar Associations of Delhi, said that this strike is in protest against the order issued by the Lieutenant Governor (LG) on August 13.

This was day three of the strike called by the Coordination Committee of all District Court Bar Associations in Delhi last Thursday to oppose a notification issued by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on August 13, allowing police to virtually present evidence in courts from police stations.

Calling the move unfair to those accused in criminal cases, as it can compromise the integrity of the judicial process, lawyers had unanimously decided to abstain from work on Friday and Saturday. On Monday, they decided to extend their strike till Tuesday.

Under the order, police officers have been allowed to present evidence in the courts from the police stations themselves. The lawyers say that this order weakens the judicial process and raises questions on the dignity of the court. In protest against this decision, the lawyers will not work in the courts for the fourth consecutive day.

Tarun Rana, Additional General Secretary of the Coordination Committee of all the District Court Bar Associations of Delhi, said that a meeting of the committee was held on August 25. Apart from this, talks were also held with the Chief Minister of Delhi, but no concrete result has come out yet. Rana said that for this reason it has been decided by consensus that lawyers will not work in all the district courts of Delhi on August 26 as well.

Entry of government lawyers and police officers prohibited

Coordination Committee Additional General Secretary Tarun Rana said that during the strike, government lawyers, Enforcement Directorate and CBI prosecutors, police officers including deputy courts will not be allowed to enter the courts on Tuesday. He said that the LG’s order is against the common people and affects the judicial process. In protest against this decision, lawyers will also protest outside all district court complexes on August 26, so that the general public can be made aware of the impact of this order.

The strike continues since August 22, normal life affected

The lawyers of Delhi’s district courts have been on a continuous strike since August 22. On Monday too, the lawyers kept away from work. Due to the strike, there was a huge traffic jam around the courts, due to which the common people had to face severe trouble. To control the situation, the police closed many roads and appealed to the people to take alternative routes through social media.
