Greater Noida: A shocking case of a Greater Noida dowry case involving harassment and domestic violence has come to light from Sirsa village. Nikki, married in 2016, was allegedly burnt alive by her husband and mother-in-law after years of abuse, with her husband reportedly addicted to alcohol.
Nikki, a mother of one, was allegedly doused with an inflammable liquid and set ablaze by her husband and in-laws over a persistent dowry demand of ₹36 lakh. She succumbed to her extensive burn injuries while being transferred from Noida’s Fortis Hospital to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital.
The horrifying incident, which occurred on Thursday night, was witnessed by Nikki’s young son and her elder sister, Kanchan, who is also married into the same family. Nikki’s family staged protests outside Kasna Police Station, demanding justice. Police have registered a case and formed multiple teams for investigation. Demonstrations continue as authorities probe the horrifying incident.
A candle march was held in Greater Noida to pay tribute in the dowry case, raising voices against dowry deaths and demanding strict action, justice, and awareness to end this social evil.
The family’s torment, according to Kanchan, began shortly after the 2016 marriage, despite their family providing a car and other valuables. The harassment intensified with the in-laws demanding a substantial sum of money. Kanchan herself alleges that she was also a victim of the family’s abuse.
The Greater Noida dowry case has ignited a firestorm of protest from local residents and women’s rights organizations, who are demanding swift and decisive action against all the accused.
