In a major twist to developments in the continuing Dharmasthala case, the police have served a notice to star YouTuber M D Sameer calling upon him to present himself before the investigating officer on August 24. The notice was slapped at his house in Ballari and it follows soon after a Mangaluru-court granted him anticipatory bail on August 21. The sameer is under the scanner of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating controversial case.
Sameer is being charged in relation to a video that he had posted implicating the misconduct and criminal activities related to the Dharmasthala case. After his upload a case was registered against him at the Dharmasthala police station in Section 192, 240 and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita laws. The authorities assert that the contents of Sameer, even though an opinion likely to amount to provocations and that contained misinformation, were likely to create a disturbance of the public order.
In spite of the allegations, Sameer has justified his videos by noting that they bring out things that are not covered by mainstream media and serves to inform the citizens. Under the conditions of the anticipatory bail, the court instructed him to always cooperate with the investigation and not to make any inflammatory statements until the investigation is over.
In the interim, the SIT has also detained the complainant in the case, C N Chinnaiah, a former sanitation worker. Claiming that he was pressured to bury numerous bodies, including those of women and children during his days as manager of Dharmasthala between 1995 and 2014, Hinnaiah, who had earlier presented himself in front of the probe panel wearing a mask, had said he did it with the knowledge or authority of Swami Nityananda. He also stated that there were indications of sexual assault on some of the victims and statements had been made before a magistrate.
The inquiry is further underway, as the SIT is inquiring into the possibility of misinformation propagated by Sameer and the validity of the allegation by Chinnaiah. The law enforcement agencies have stressed that every step towards conducting the probe is being followed dutifully to maintain the integrity of probe.
