A woman was reportedly buried under debris and a man is missing after a cloudburst in the Tharali area of Chamoli, Himachal Pradesh. The cloudburst, which occurred around 2 a.m. last night, sent debris crashing into several homes, including that of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.
After getting information about the incident, SDRF, police team, tehsil administration team reached the spot for relief and rescue work. District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari reached the spot and is inspecting the incident. He said that the cloudburst incident took place around 12 o’clock in the night. This has caused a lot of damage in the area. DM said that the health department team has also reached the spot. Arrangements are being made to accommodate the affected people at safe places. Many roads have been blocked due to cloudburst, the work of opening them is also being done on a war footing.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed grief over the incident of a cloudburst late night in Tharali area of Chamoli district. He said that the district administration, SDRF, police have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations. The Chief Minister said that he is constantly in touch with the local administration in this regard and is himself closely monitoring the situation. The Chief Minister has prayed to God for the safety of everyone.
In view of the possibility of heavy rain and disaster, the administration has declared holiday today in all the schools of Tharali, Dewal and Narayanbagh blocks. A rainy stream suddenly overflowed in Tharali’s tehsil complex Radibag, due to which the SDM residence got buried under debris. However, the SDM and his family took shelter in a safe place at night itself.
