A complaint was given to Sharda University in FIR after a BTech student died tragically, and the father complained about the abetment of suicide against this university, the police said on Tuesday. A Resident of Purnia in the Madhubani district, Bihar, the 24-year-old Computer Science student was found dead in his hostel room at HNR hostel on the night of Friday.
The father said that the university management did not notify the family when his son ceased attending classes. My son has been doing BTech at Sharda University, and was staying in the HNR boys’ hostel. He has been out of college since August 2023, he added, in his complaint registered at the Knowledge Park police station. The father also alleged that the student had a backlog in various subjects, but the college went ahead to collect fees without informing them that he had not attended college.
The suicide note left by the student contained explanations of how he was unable to withstand academic pressure and that he was completely responsible for his suicide and asked that no other person be blamed for his action. He also demanded that the police not arrest anyone and said the university should reimburse the unnecessary fee.
According to a spokesperson of the university, the student had joined in 2022, after which he passed the first year and did not perform well in the second year, due to which the student could not get the minimum 5.0 CGPA to move to the next year. The university had done the mentoring, had been supportive of the internship and given a chance to repeat the second year at a lesser cost where needed. They said they were sorry to the family and stated that charges would be returned and help would be provided.
The family said that the student had gone on a religious visit to Vaishno Devi in early August and was not in any distress in the house. This is not the first time after another student enrolled in the Dental Sciences program; a second-year student also committed suicide in July.
