Bhopal: Another large-capacity manufacturing laboratory of illegal drugs has been dismantled in Jagdishpur (Islamnagar) in the capital of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal. The secret facility has been closed and was in fact constructed secretly concealed on all sides so not to be easily discovered. Police are now interrogating the dwellers in the neighborhood to collect additional information on the operation. In the course of the raid, a chemist and another person were found red-handed in the illicit manufacturing of narcotics i.e. mephedrone.
The case received publicity as the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) carried out a bot motivated raid on the illegal factory yesterday revealing the illegal manufacturing plant. Officials retrieved 61.2 kilograms of mephedrone (popularly referred to as MD drugs) at the site which is estimated to have an overall value of close to 92 crore in the illegal market. The recovery is one of the major crackdowns in the recent past in central India related to the production of the synthetic drugs.
Together with the arrest, seven were apprehended in reference to the case. It is established that all the seven accused were acting under the directive of the leader of an international drug cartel. Due to the perceived influence of the cartel it is believed that the cartel has controlled the supply chain, controlled the production, and distribution of money through very elaborate hawalas. It is mentioned in sources that there have been huge exchanges of money between Surat and Mumbai and Bhopal through illegitimate channels of finance, which were later being used to keep the manufacturing and distribution process going.
The DRI has stepped up its probe, not just on the apprehended suspects but its wider nexus with foreign drug rackets, regional middlemen and money men. Officials feel that breaking up this unit would help in effectively countering the menace of synthetic drugs in India which is on an increase. The case is likely to yield long-term consequences in terms of enforcing future drug laws in the nation with the participation of international actors.
