The phone call between the Russian President, Vladimir Putin and PM Narendra Modi on Monday has underlined the Indian effort to reach a diplomatic solution on the Ukraine conflict. The call was made shortly before the U.S President Donald Trump was to meet some Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy at the White House where they are expected to discuss issues related to peace talks.

As the sources of official sources of information stated, PM Modi once again stressed the position of India since long period that the only way out of a war that is taking place is dialogue and diplomacy. Emphasizing the need of peace, Modi called out a solution, a peaceful one, to this crisis which has upset the European landscape and indeed the world security and economy.

President Putin in the phone conversation informed about his recent meeting with President Trump in Alaska, which allegedly discussed the potential ways of cessation of aggression in Ukraine. Although no concrete agreement has been made as yet, the fact that Putin has briefed Modi already highlights the interest of crucial diplomatic developments that New Delhi should be kept aware about, as briefed by the Moscow.

It was also outlined in the Kremlin how earlier the same day, a separate conversation between Putin and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has taken place. During the discussion, Ramaphosa was quoted as supporting diplomatic means in a bid to seek a negotiated ending of the strife. The two leaders additionally spoke of the need to be able to cultivate the comprehensive strategic Russian-South African relations, further making the case of outreach by Russia to its world partners in the wake of the crisis in Ukraine.

The neutral position demonstrated by India since the beginning of the war between Russia and Ukraine has been a balancing act that did not allow finishing the phrases opposed to Moscow and the subsequent appeals to negotiation and self-restriction.
