The men who have been arrested have been charged with assaulting a 26-year-old Indian Army jawan Kapil Singh at one of the toll plazas found in a highway in Uttar Pradesh Meerut, police confirmed on Monday. The video of the assault that allegedly took place at the Bhuni toll plaza located in the Sarurpur area appeared on social media after which the incident came to be known.
The police chief of Meerut district Vipin Tada stated, that the previous night they obtained a video where some people were seen beating a man. During the investigation, it has been found that the complainant was an Army jawan who had come on his leave. He engaged toll workers in an argument and after that, he was beaten. Taking into consideration the gravity of the issue, a criminal case was filed and 6 people were arrested basing on the video evidence.”
Kapil Singh (a soldier of the Rajput Regiment) who was going back to duty in Srinagar after completing his leave in the Kanwar Yatra was on his way to Delhi to board an early morning flight to Srinagar. As reported by the authorities, Singh wanted the toll workers to allow him to squeeze through saying he had a flight at 5 in the morning. He even produced his Army identification card to them but the incidence only turned out into a hot argument. Shortly afterwards, the toll employees supposedly beat him up into some injuries.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra told that CCTV cameras are being carefully investigated to understand the complete details of all the perpetrators of an assault. He said remaining accused were being traced attempts are on to trace them apart from the ones who already have been arrested six men are already in custody.
The report has caused an uproar with most wondering how a serving soldier ended up being served that violence. The law enforcers have promised to take tough measures against all these individuals, confirming that additional arrests are to be carried out on other individuals according to the evidence gathered.
