Mumbai:  Mumbai witnessed heavy rain for the third straight day on Monday, causing water-logging in low-lying areas, prompting IMD to issue red alert. Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Ashish Shelar reviewed the situation of relentless rains and flooding at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation control room on Monday afternoon. The BMC urged residents to venture out only if essential.

Meanwhile, Matunga police rescued a school bus stranded in a waterlogged area, safely evacuating six children who were on board. In the 24 hours ending at 8 am on Monday, the island city logged an average of 54.58 mm of rainfall, the eastern suburbs received 72.61 mm, while the western suburbs recorded 65.86 mm, IMD informed on X.

Several roads were left waterlogged following the intense downpour. Low-lying stretches such as the Andheri Subway and Lokhandwala Complex saw water accumulation at a number of spots, disrupting traffic flow. “Umarshi Bappa to Kurla junction, Signature park to postal colony 1 to 1/2 feet water logging”, wrote Mumbai Traffic Police on X as it issued warnings for commuters throughout the city.

Heavy Rainfall in Himachal Pradesh; 400 Roads Closed

Heavy rains continued to lash parts of Himachal Pradesh on Monday, triggering landslides at several places and prompting closure of 400 roads, including three national highways.

However, no loss of life was reported, officials said. The Shimla-Mandi road was closed near Tatti-Pani in Sunni area of Shimla district due to scouring and sliding caused by Satluj river. The width of the road has been reduced to 1.5 metres, making it unsafe for vehicular movement. The alternative route via Thali Bridge is also closed,
