On Sunday, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu showcased the dramatic change occurring in the state’s agriculture and allied sector, terming it a fast track of growth due to its increasing productivity, sustainability, and prosperity among farmers.
Publishing information through a post on X, Khandu shared information that 99,656 farmers have been involved to receive 142.67 crores through the direct transfer facility under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme, which has greatly increased rural incomes. He also made the point that sustainable farming relied on soil health, and 1,02,295 farmers have been provided soil health cards so they can know the condition of the soil and be able to adopt scientific farming practices. According to him, healthy soil is the basis of healthy crops, and we are making sure our farmers receive the correct knowledge to exploit their land sustainably.
On irrigation, the chief minister reported that since the launch of the PM-Per Drop More Crop programme, around 26,163 hectares of agricultural lands have been exposed to efficient micro-irrigation systems, and it benefited 5,658 farmers. Closely emphasizing the need to ensure that agriculture is eco-friendly, Khandu added that the state is giving a big push to organic farming. In the Mission Organic Value Chain Development project, 15,099 farmers have been assisted with 23.25 crores with an aim to promote cultivation without the use of chemicals. “It makes our farming organic not only environmental-friendly, but also increases the market value of our produce,” he added.
The farmers have also been a priority in terms of financial empowerment, and there have been an issue of 96,492 Kisan credit cards that were issued, with the state having reached 99.26 percent of saturation in the state. To Khandu, this makes the credit provision timely, accessible to almost every eligible farmer, and limits reliance on the informal sources of financing.
The government has also disseminated 42,418 modern farm equipment within the past nine years as a way of modernizing agricultural practices so that farmers can use advanced agricultural methods. According to Khandu, these measures mean that the government believes in strengthening the agriculture industry in the state to be more resilient and sustainable, and profitable.
