Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two signature national highway projects in Rohini that will decongest roads in Delhi and improve connectivity in the National Capital Region and worth almost 11000 crore rupees. The projects falling under the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and the Delhi portion of the Dwarka Expressway, as per the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), are a high-priority advancement plan with an intention of enabling smooth mobility and enhancing lives in the capital. The inauguration formalities, which will involve the time slot of about 12.30 pm at Rohini, will be one of the significant developments in terms of modernising the road sector of Delhi.
UER-II, which was made at a cost of 6445 crores in a length of 76 kilometres, will serve as the third Ring Road towards Delhi. When it is functional, it will be instrumental in redirecting traffic in busy places, hence limiting clogging along the main streets in a given city. Modi is to virtually commission four of the five packages of the project by gathering the stretch between Mahipalpur near IGI Airport to Alipur in North Delhi.
Coupled to this, the Prime Minister will also be inaugurating another 29km line named Dwarka Expressway with its part in Delhi, as well as a 5.1km long tunnel that will offer direct access to Indira Gandhi International Airport. This tunnel will severely reduce the travel duration of people commuting between the Noida, Gurugram, and other places in NCR and IGI Airport.
Collectively, both the mega projects are expected to decongest traffic flows on major roads, including the current Ring Road of Delhi, NH-48, NH-44, and the Barapullah elevated road. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) claims that these infrastructural expansions are aimed strategically in order to decrease the travel time, optimise logistics, and provide convenient road connectivity within and surrounding Delhi.
According to the PMO, these projects are a reflection of the vision of Prime Minister Modi with regard to developing world-class infrastructure that changes the way people move in cities and helps in driving economic growth.
