A bigger, more systemic conspiracy to rig voter lists and subvert democratic elections in India was being plotted, the Congress party said on Saturday. The party also released the schedule of its ensuing Voter Rights Yatra, which it claimed was a movement to protect the basic right of voting, at a press meet in Delhi.

Pawan Khera, the head of the Congress media and Publicity Department, alleged that the BJP had systematically messed up voters’ lists by including bogus entries and deleting real voters. People who hatch plots will retreat; they will seek to rig votes. “The game of just adding and deleting the bogus votes has been caught, and BJP members have been caught red-handed. Today, even simple citizens are emerging with supporting evidence of vote theft,” Khera replied.

He also claimed that the continued manipulation was of the most vulnerable segments of society. In the present day, there are Dalits, the poor, and minority groups, who are not given the right to vote. Their whole involvement in the democracy, thus, might be denied tomorrow. There is a conspiracy being planned to a great extent to attack the softer segments of this country, and people are now speaking up against it,” he said.

Khera also took sharp digs at the Election Commission, contending that it has made itself a part of a pizza slice of this twin-engine Government. According to him, rather than being an independent constitutional body, the Commission was colluding with the ruling party.

As she declared the Voter Rights Yatra, Khera mentioned that the campaign was going to be a “historic trip” and a “turning point to the struggle of democracy and existence.” He pointed out the fact that Congress would keep on opposing such moves and maintain guard on the voice and rights of the people.
