In the biggest anti-Naxal move, security personnel conducted an extensive operation in the Pamed and Tarrem region and destroyed a Maoist commemoration and took control of huge quantities of explosives and weapons. This was a joint effort of Cobra 208, CRPF 228 and Cobra 203 units of Sukma district carried out as part of an existing anti-Maoist operation.
Reports say the teams were sent to Gundrajgudem, Barsenpalli, Mangaltor, and Urtamalla. In the course of the mission, they were able to identify and destroy one of the Maoist memorials in one of the high-densities of forests of Urtamalla. The forces also unearthed weapons and explosives when they were searching in large rocks in Komatpalli forest-hill region.
Among the materials seized there were country made guns, BGL rounds and rods, BGL parts, materials to make explosives (PEK, urea, electric wires), ammunition pouches, pressure cookers of different sizes (10L, 5L, 3L), saw blades, and speakers. These were seen to have been found in the supply of Maoists in developing and using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and other weapons.
The introduction of security camps in the region led forces to destroy Maoist commemoratives, makeshift shelters and training camps. According to the officials, such measures are very helpful in subduing the influence and the functional ability of Maoist gangs in the area.
There has been continuous patrolling and search as a way of ensuring safety and putting pressure on insurgent networks. The officials made it clear that such operations are directed not solely at disabling the Maoist elements; the effect also lingers in making the local civilians feel secure. It is with this affirmation that the security forces stated that they will be committed to ensure peace and stability is restored in the region, the Maoist activities are reduced and development efforts can continue without fear or interference.
