The AIMIM leader, who is also a Member of Parliament representing Hyderabad, Asaduddin Owaisi, has hurled a stinging barrage at Pakistan PM, Shehbaz Sharif, over his recent inference to the PM of India on the issue concerning the Indus Waters Treaty. Owaisi reacted to the comments of Sharif, telling Sharif that India had the BrahMos missile and that he should not talk this nonsense.

Speaking during a ceremony in Islamabad on Tuesday, Shehbaz Sharif had threatened that the enemy of Pakistan would not get even a drop of water in the country. His remarks were made amidst India deciding to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty on April 23 as a punitive measure after the previous day, when terrorists had killed 26 people in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir against Pahalgam.

Pakistan has always insisted that India can never block or limit the flow of water supply through the treat,y as it would be a declaration of war. Sharif had said in his speech, “The threat to withhold our water is you have a reminder that you will not be able to steal a single drop of Pakistan. Suppose India tries this, then another lesson will be taught to you, such that you will keep holding your ears.”

In response to these threats, Owaisi told the news agency, “Humara hai BrahMos… India will not be affected by such threats. That is it, already too much.” The BrahMos, a supersonic cruise missile co-developed by India and Russia, has been considered one of the most advanced strategic weapons of India for a long time.

It is not the only time Owaisi came forward with a strict statement regarding the rhetoric of Pakistan. Prior to that, he had criticized the words by Pakistan army chief Asim Munir, who had cast allusions to nuclear warnings, saying such language was unacceptable and condemnable. His most recent comments are representative of an increasing political opinion in India that tough words will no longer be tolerated by Pakistan.
