On Wednesday, the Political Affairs Committee meeting was opened at the headquarters of the Congress, where several well-known leaders gathered to exchange views on the major political strategies. Other prominent party members, such as former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh, senior leader Jitu Patwari, Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, former minister Sajjan Singh Verma, and MLA Phool Singh Baraiya, among others, were present.
Among the primary items on the docket was the claim of the robbery of votes in Madhya Pradesh. The leadership of the Congress is working out a plot to counter the alleged fear of fake voters that exists in a number of constituencies. The party said that the disclosure would be done in detail within hours in a press conference, which would be addressed by Jitu Patwari, Umang Singhar, and Harish Chaudhary of the party. The information related to the issue has been collected throughout the state with inputs from party MLAs and assembly candidates.
Besides the issue of voting, the meeting was characterised by the closure of the names of district presidents. Before the end of the meeting, the list of new district chiefs was to be given by the former minister Sajjan Singh Verma, and this was expected to be announced within two days. According to him, the list would comprise new and experienced leaders, which indicates the combination of new energy with a dose of experience.
Verma also referred to the fact that some confidential agendas were also discussed during the meeting, and they will likely influence the political approach that will be adopted by the party in the future. In the meantime, Umang Singhar gave Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) the charge of coming to power in Madhya Pradesh by theft of votes and voter lists being held up.
With such developments, the Congress seems to be preparing to have a more assertive political game in the state, integrating an organisational realignment with firm accusations against the ruling party in the preface of forthcoming electoral contests.
