Kapil Sharma, comedian and television host, has received police protection in Mumbai, in the wake of a shooting incident at his newly opened cafe in Surrey, Canada, which was hit by two different shootings within the span of a month.
The last case involved the early afternoon hours of Thursday, the 7th of August, 2025, in the Newton locality in Surrey. In a news release, Surrey Police said officers had turned up at about 4.40 a.m. to reports of shots fired outside a business at the 8400 block of 120 Street. Although police did not reveal the location of the establishment, the targeted site was reported by the Canadian media to be Sharma Kap Cafes. This was an attack that occurred after a similar attack on July 10, 2025, at the same place.
There were no injuries reported in both incidents, although the repeated occurrence of the attacks has led to an increase in security concerns. Police are probing possible joint ties of the shootings, such as whether they were conducted by criminal fringes on a greater scale or region.
Sharma, 43, who shot to fame as the host of The Kapil Sharma Show, launched the cafe early this year as an expansion of his businesses abroad. He has been contacting Canadian authorities, sources said, insisting that he is cooperating in the investigation fully.
During the first July attack, at least 10 bullet holes were left on the windows of the café, where one of the panes still remained broken. The building where Kap Caf is located has retail units on the ground floor and residential apartments above; however, there is no sign on the number of occupants within the building at the moment of the attack.
Last August’s shooting has given rise to fears of targeted shootings and unsubstantiated online reports hinting at the gang as the motive. Mumbai Police, as a measure of safety, have given Sharma security cover in India as both countries are still investigating the motive and the actors.
