Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 184 newly built Type-VII multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament (MPs) at Baba Kharak Singh Marg in Delhi on Monday, addressing a long-standing shortage of adequate housing for lawmakers. The project, which includes four towers named after major Indian rivers—Krishna, Godavari, Kosi, and Hooghly—was completed with an expenditure of approximately Rs 550 crore.
During the inauguration ceremony, the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s sustained focus on providing modern and functional residences for MPs, highlighting that no new MP residences were constructed for a decade before 2014. “Speaking at the inauguration of newly constructed flats for MPs in New Delhi”, wrote PM Modi on X.
Each flat offers around 5,000 square feet of carpet area, with dedicated sections for offices, staff accommodation, and residential purposes, a government release said. Incorporating green technology, the project adheres to the standards of the GRIHA 3-star rating and complies with the National Building Code (NBC) 2016. These environmentally sustainable features are expected to contribute to energy conservation, renewable energy generation, and effective waste management.
