Chandigarh. Shrimoni Akali Dal (SAD) is going to hold an emergency meeting today in Chandigarh afternoon under the chairmanship of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal. In this meeting, many important issues, especially the land pooling policy, will be discussed with the working committee, district presidents and constituency in-charges.
Shrimoni Akali Dal has recently issued orders for the appointment of 18 general secretaries, information of which was given by senior Akali leader Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema. Along with this, Shiromani Akali Dal is preparing to announce its new president soon. The recruitment committee constituted by Sri Akal Takht Sahib is in the final stage of the process of selecting of the new president.
The recruitment committee has written a letter to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) seeking permission to hold a general meeting at Teja Singh Samundri Hall on August 11. Five members of the committee—Manpreet Singh Ayali, Gurpratap Singh Wadala, Santa Singh Umaidpur, Iqbal Singh Jhundha and Bibi Satwant Kaur—said that the recruitment process has been completed as per the instructions of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. A new president will be elected in this meeting.
SGPC has sent this letter to Sri Akal Takht Sahib to avoid any possible controversy. SGPC member Kulwant Singh Mann said that further action will be taken as per the instructions of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
The process of appointment of 18 general secretaries and selection of a new president clearly shows that Shrimoni Akali Dal is engaged in strengthening its organizational structure and preparing strategy on important issues. This meeting and the upcoming Ijlas are considered crucial for the party’s future.
