Delhi Assembly Paperless: The Delhi Assembly has gone paperless. The paperless assembly will begin with the Delhi Assembly Monsoon Session starting on August 4. After this, Delhi Assembly will run completely digitally. As soon as this happens, Delhi will become the country’s first metro capital. MLAs will ask questions through e-paper. The government will bring a bill to control the fees of private schools. According to the Assembly Secretariat, this change is not only important from the environmental point of view but it will also increase transparency, speed and efficiency in the proceedings.
During the Delhi Assembly session, MLAs will be provided their questions, attention motions and other documents through e-paper. All ministers, officers and MLAs will now participate in the proceedings through tablets and laptops. The Assembly Speaker has called it a big step towards democratic transparency related to new technology.
This time in the monsoon session, the Delhi government is going to introduce a new bill to strictly curb the arbitrary fee hike by private schools. According to education department sources, under this law, private schools will have to take approval from the government before increasing the fees every year.
Earlier in the country, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh and Nagaland assemblies have become partially paperless. However, Delhi Assembly has become the first metro capital assembly which is conducting a completely digital session. The government believes that this step will provide many benefits like saving paper, fast information exchange and environmental protection. Now it has to be seen whether this model of digital assembly becomes an inspiration for other assemblies of the country or not.
