Raipur. Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has filed a petition in the Supreme Court to avoid arrest. Former CM Baghel has filed an anticipatory bail petition after his name surfaced in cases like liquor, coal and Mahadev Satta App. The powers and jurisdiction of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) have been challenged. In the petition, former CM Baghel has demanded that he should not be arrested in these cases and be given an opportunity to cooperate in the investigation. The matter is to be heard in the Supreme Court on Monday.
Bhupesh Baghel mentioned in his petition that just as his son Chaitanya Baghel was arrested due to political animosity, he too can be targeted. It is feared that central agencies can take action as part of political vendetta.
The Supreme Court is also to hear the bail petition filed by Chaitanya Baghel, daughter of former CM Baghel. The petition filed by Tanya states that neither her name is in the ED’s FIR nor in anyone’s statement, despite this she was arrested under political malice. At present she is in judicial custody. Her name is not in the ED’s FIR.
For the unversed, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on July 18 conducted searches at the Bhilai residence of former Chhattisgarh chief minister and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel, officials aware of the details said. In a latest update, Bhupesh Baghel’s son, Chaitanya Baghel, has been arrested by the ED. This arrest comes hours after a search was conducted at the place of former Chhattisgarh CM, Bhupesh Baghel. Some reports also say that the search action is against the son of Bhupesh Baghel, who is involved in the liquor scam.
