Heavy, continuous rainfall across Uttar Pradesh has led to a rapid rise in the water levels of the Ganga, Yamuna, Ken, and Chambal rivers. Just a day after PM Modi visited his constituency, in Varanasi, the Ganga and Varuna rivers are now overflowing their banks, with water spilling onto the surrounding areas.

As of Saturday night at midnight, the Ganga in Varanasi had reached 71.26 meters, significantly exceeding the danger mark. The Central Water Commission reports that the river’s water level continues to climb rapidly.

At the same time, Yamuna and Ken rivers are also in spate in Banda. Chambal river has already crossed the danger point. NDRF-SDRF and local administration are taking people to safe relief camps. Ganga water has reached the main road from Ganga stairs. Ganga stairs have reached the main road at Dashashwamedh and Sheetla Ghat as well.

Due to rain in the state, the water level of the major rivers of the state is increasing. Ganga and Yamuna rivers are also in spate in Sangam city. Due to rising water level, the rivers have reached close to the danger level. In the last 24 hours, the water level of Ganga in Phaphamau increased by 146 centimeters.
