Sharad Pawar, NCP leader and Baramati MP Supriya Sule, lashed out against the BJP-led Mahayuti government in Maharashtra, accusing the government of not being able to reduce the level of crime, even as one of its major welfare schemes was allegedly embroiled in a huge corruption scandal. In another response to reporters, Sule alleged that a fraud of 4,900 crore had taken place in the Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, that is, a state scheme, which provides a monthly help of 1,500 rupees to women.
Pointing to a galloping rise in crimes in districts such as Pune and Beed, Sule said the government had become a mute spectator, and the rogue behavior had flourished. Individuals do not have confidence in the system anymore. There is no fear of the law anymore. Who is supporting these gangsters? The government is not saying anything and instead opts to keep quiet on this, she said.
Sule also demanded an explanation on why it is taking so long to form a special investigation team (SIT) over the May 2022 murder of Parli-based businessman Mahadev Munde. She says his government took action only after the wife of Munde tried to self-immolate and visited Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, requesting the state to do justice. We want a fair, transparent probe by SIT, she emphasized.
Concerned about the unrest in Yavat, Daund tehsil, where houses were attacked and burnt down because of a social media post, Sule put the fault on the outsiders who are instigating problems. She appealed to the Chief Minister Fadnavis and the Deputy Chief Ministers, such as Ajit Pawar, to ensure peace and communal harmony.
Maharashtra has turned out to be a sad example of how power and money can go wrong of governance. Suicidal farmers, increasing crime, yet the state administration is engaged in self-promotions, it is time the government acted now and restored faith of people in the state administration, she said.
