Asia cup 2025 is already starting to take shape with news having it that the biggest cricket rivals; that is India and Pakistan will once again be in the same group. With the continental tournament expected to take place in the UAE between September 10 and 28, there is a possibility of having as many as three games between India and Pakistan (in the group stage, the Super Four as well as the final, should both the sides reach that stage).

The eighth edition of the Asia cup which will be played in T20 format will be played as a pre-event of the T20 world cup next year. The block system also follows the trend of having at least one tension-filled India-Pakistan match since the two countries are not allowed to play bilateral series as a result of poor cross-border relations.

It is also notable that the announcement of the grouping has reached at a time when there is increased tension between the two nations. Political sensitivities had in fact entered cricket only last week with the cancellation of an India Champions-Pakistan Champions match during the World Championship of Legends (WCL) a veterans tournament. Stars like Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, and Shikhar Dhawan withdrew their names along with Indian players after the reaction of the masses which rebelled against playing the same field with Pakistan.

This move also comes in the wake of a new military surge as retaliation and increased tensions along the borders, following the Pahalgam terror attack in April.

Most of the logistical issues were said to have been concluded upon during the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting that was organised in Dhaka early this week. As the host, the BCCI will soon announce the official tournament schedule on the ACC stage, maybe by this weekend, and prepare the stage to another high-voltage India-Pakistan clash.
