Amroha: Two people died, including a six-year-old girl, and 16 were injured because of a tragic road mishap that took place in Uttar Pradesh on Friday morning in the Amroha district. According to police officials, the accident occurred as a school van transporting students and staff head-on crashed into a pickup truck on the Hasanpur-Gajraula road at around 7:20 AM outside the Manota bridge.

Their school bus, which had picked up some kids and teachers from Hasanpur town, was heading to the International Public School in Sahsoli village when the accident happened. The effect was so profound that the forward part of the van was destroyed, leaving several people injured.

One of the children, named Anaya, died instantly, whereas a 30-year-old teacher by name Nisha, a resident of Hasanpur, passed away in the early hours of treatment at the district hospital in Amroha, as per Circle Officer Deep Kumar Pant. There is a legal process going on, and all those who are hurt are receiving medical attention, the officer said.

Those who were injured include 13 school children, the van driver, Vishesh Kumar of Sahsoli, and two members of staff in the school. People of the area who came forward to rescue the people involved in the accident did the first rescue work until the arrival of the police officers. The injured were rushed to the community health centre (CHC), and five children who were in serious condition were directed to the district hospital to be treated further.

The police have added that an investigation is on to establish the actual cause of the accident. In the meantime, law enforcers have encouraged motorists to be extra careful on crowded roads, particularly during school hours, to avert such unfortunate accidents in the future.

The accident brings about the necessity of strong security measures in the transport of schools and enhances traffic rules on rural and semi-urban roads.
