Himachal Pradesh is still under the most devastating effects of the intense monsoon season as the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has confirmed the loss of 98 lives between June 20 and July 13, 2025, across the State. A total of 57 of these deaths were rain-related disasters, such as landslides, flash floods, cloud bursts, drowning, and electrocution, and 41 deaths were due to road accidents, as given in the latest situation report issued at 10.00 AM on Monday.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), 208 roads, one of which is National Highway 21 (Mandi to Kullu), are still blocked to traffic. There is also a disruption of 139 distribution transformers (DTRs) and 745 schemes involving water supply, badly affecting basic services in a number of districts.

The cumulative loss report is shocking because out of the number of those who have been killed through rain related issues 15 were killed by cloudburst, 9 by drowning, 8 by flash floods, 4 by snake bites, 1 by both landslide and fire, and 19 were killed due to fall, getting electricity and other various causes. None were reported of lightning strikes.

The worst-affected district in this monsoon has been Mandi, with 21 deaths as a result of rain, 27 people missing, and massive damage to property. As to the highest number of deaths in road accidents, Kullu recorded 7 deaths, followed by Chamba (6 deaths), and Shimla and Solan (4 deaths each).

SEOC also reported 178 injuries, 34 persons are also believed missing, and 22,454 livestock animals were also lost in the process. There is damage to property by 668 houses, 788 cowsheds, 224 shops and industrial units and economic loss is estimated at 770 crores.

Rescue and relief work is underway, but this is being hampered by incessant rains. Governments have encouraged people to stay out of high-risk areas, travel with minimal non-essential trips, and be updated with official updates, and to call 1070.

And 31 flash floods, 22 cloud bursts, and 18 landslides were reported in merely 24 days.
