In an accident on a teary note on early Saturday morning, three family members, including a 10-month-old child, lost their lives as the family’s car lost control and fell into the Sone canal near the Saraiya village in Ranitalab locality of Patna. Two other persons have been injured and are receiving treatment, police authorities have established.

The residents of the Mahua village in the Vaishali district, the victims had died when they were moving back home after a family visit to Chhattisgarh. The victims were involved in the accident at around 4.30 am. As Superintendent of Police (West), Bhanu Pratap Singh explained, the vehicle seems to have gone out of control and fallen into the canal, making the loss of lives a tragic bloodshed.

At about 5.00 am, local police in Ranitalab station were alerted. The local vehicles promptly traveled to the scene, where the assistance of locals and a JCB machine helped to remove the sunken car from the water of the canal.

The two deceased were determined to be Nirmala Devi (52), her daughter-in-law Neetu Singh (35), and her 10-month-old grandson, Astitva. The three were pronounced dead at the hospital on arrival. Two others, Nandan Singh, the driver, and his small daughter Siddhi, were injured and were first brought to Bikram Primary Health Centre. They were then taken to AIIMS Patna to be treated there.

According to the initial investigations, it could be that Nandan found himself dozing off behind the wheel, and the car swooned off the road sharply into the canal. A police officer at the scene claimed that, the family was on their way to their home village in Vaishali to participate in a family occasion.

The family village is shrouded in gloom due to the horrible accident that occurred. The police are still investigating the case, and they have advised motorists to exercise caution, particularly in early mornings when fatigue-related road accidents are common.
