According to the Russian Defence Ministry, the overnight drone attack by the Ukrainian forces involved a large range of regions in Russia, killing two people and injuring others. The strikes, whereby the activity period occurred between 11 p.m. on Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday, led to the desired closures of a few airports and also instigated adverse counter measures at multiple locations in western Russia.
Russian Defence Ministry claimed that its air defense destroyed 155 Ukrainian drones during the period of attack. Of these 11 were said to be bound to Moscow. Following the threat, three main airports in the city of Moscow, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovsky briefly stopped their operations but reportedly continued their operations later as indicated by Rosaviatsia, the national aviation authority.
Among the victims, there is one in the Lipetsk region outside Moscow where a drone plunged into an agrarian, causing a life. This collision brought about a fire which caused one death and another injured person, and which was confirmed by the regional governor Igor Artamonov throughTelegram. The Defence Ministry officials reported that four drones were intercepted flying over Lipetsk, and they did not specify a total number used.
The other victim followed in Tula region which is about 200 kilometers south of Moscow. Governor Dmitry Milyaev said, a Ukrainian drone attack killed one person and injured another in the region.
Mayor Svetlana Kambulova said the debris of a crashed drone fell on the territory of the Beriev plane-making factory in the Southwestern port city of Taganrog. She said that there were no injuries and she could not confirm whether the facility suffered damage.
Although the Ukrainian government has not been able to comment on it officially, it has always claimed that such attacks are carried out to disable those infrastructures that are considered important to the war machinery of Russia; yet are performed in response to the fact that Moscow continues to attack its territory.
