Plans are afoot to have a new state executive team of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) following the appointment of Hemant Khandelwal as the new president of the party in Madhya Pradesh. Khandelwal is provided with full freedom to select his team members, and he is supposed to induct senior, dedicated, active, loyal part-time workers of his choice. Party sources said the new executive would have no sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) or Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs).

The move is in line with the BJP policy of one person + one position that lays stress on single-minded leadership and helps to avoid any duplication of duty and role in an organisation along with elected office. This means that the individuals in the team who are sitting in the legislature or the ministries will not have organisational dimensions with the new team. Such a step will help introduce greater balance and efficiency to the party structure, differentiating the roles of governing and party management.

Interestingly, the present BJP state executive has 7 MPs, 1 minister and 6 MLAs as office-bearers. They are all likely to be shed in the new executive framework. Formation of the new team will also introduce new faces across the state and offer a chance to new talent and active grassroots workers.

It is said that Hemant Khandelwal has already met with the central team in Delhi on the make-up of his new team. The head has given him a green light to undertake the restructuring. The step is being regarded as an effort to rejuvenate the party on the state level in preparation for future electoral battles, with emphasis on the increase of organisational prowess through young blood and dedicated party activists.
