In Palamu district of Jharkhand, the government has clamped prohibitory orders in Palhe village after a clash between two groups of people during a Muharram procession turned violent. According to the officials, the incident happened in the Patan police station area on Sunday evening, where at least three individuals were injured.

To address the scenario, Deputy Commissioner Sameera S said that prohibitory orders as per Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (previously Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code) came into effect at 6 AM on Monday. The orders will also last 48 hours to avoid further escalation and to ensure that peace reigns in the area.

“Precautionary measures have also been put up so that violence is not witnessed again. The injured are getting treatment, their statements are being recorded so as to identify those who were involved in the clash,” the deputy commissioner told a news agency.

There is also a peace committee awakened by the administration of the district that is meeting people in the area and the leaders to calm the tension and restore normalcy in the district. The police staff has been posted in the village to control the law and order as well as keep the situation under check.

The reason for the confrontation is still unknown. But authorities stated that the initial indication was that there was a conflict with two local groups in the procession of the religious rites, which turned into a physical fight.

This has been seen to worry people about coexistence among the neighbours in such times of religious observances. The administration has persuaded the residents to be calm and comply with the government.

Community elders and local leaders are also called upon to be active in solving tensions and ensuring peace. The scenario has been brought under control, and there has been no more violence reported since the use of the prohibitory orders.
