Bhopal: The crime rate in the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, where the capital is Bhopal, has been continually increasing, and this has necessitated the police department to develop a concrete plan to deal with the rising menace. In what can be described as a major initiative towards preventing crimes, Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra has asked all station house officers (SHOs) to prepare a list of the 10 most notorious criminals working in their areas.
Under these orders, the city is now gearing up to come up with minute lists of names of habitual offenders and the history-sheeters in all 34 police stations in this city. These lists will be used to monitor the involved people and keep an eye on them constantly as soon as it is prepared. The program is expected to monitor closely known troublemakers, who, even after coming back out of jail, still indulge in criminal activities.
It is felt by the officials that they can reduce the crime rate in the near future by investigating these people in a better manner. Sensitivities around the issue have been raised after violent events that have occurred in recent times. Three murders in Bhopal in the past 15 days created panic alerts, and policing was at the centre stage to answer the question of how to prevent murders before they occur.
Some of these crimes have been committed by repeat criminals, and there are those that have formerly been brought to justice by the police or were under police watch. The new action plan should bring more accountability and control since the police teams will now be responsible for tracing and preventing repeat crimes in the areas that have been allocated to them.
Disregarding less risky parts of the city and concentrating on the most hazardous areas in the work of each police station, authorities are optimistic that crime in the city can be reduced more efficiently. The step is being perceived as one towards making Bhopal a safer city for the residents.
