AAIMS New Delhi: A fire erupted at the Trauma Centre of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Thursday afternoon, prompting a swift response from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS). The blaze, which originated in an electric transformer located near the Trauma Centre, was quickly brought under control. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties have been reported.

The DFS received a call regarding the fire at approximately 3:34 PM. Immediately, eight fire tenders were dispatched to the location, though initial reports had mentioned five. Firefighters acted promptly to douse the flames, confining the fire to the transformer and preventing it from spreading to other critical areas or nearby adjacent transformers, which could have led to a much larger disaster. The operation to extinguish the fire was completed by 3:55 PM.

DFS officials confirmed that the fire was limited to the transformer and that all individuals in and around the hospital were safe. The quick and efficient response by the fire department played a crucial role in averting a major incident, especially given the proximity of the doctors’ hostel to the affected area.

Hospital operations at the AIIMS Trauma Centre continued without disruption, and patients were not affected by the incident. While the exact cause of the transformer catching fire is currently under investigation, initial assessments suggest a short circuit may have triggered the blaze. This incident highlights the importance of robust fire safety measures, particularly in critical infrastructure like hospitals. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
