Accra: In a significant reaffirmation of diplomatic ties and a recognition of his global leadership, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was today conferred with Ghana’s national honour, “The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana.” The award was presented by Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama during a state banquet held in Accra, marking a pivotal moment in India-Ghana relations.
The “Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana” is the second-highest national award in Ghana, bestowed upon individuals who have significantly contributed to the nation’s cause and in this case, for distinguished statesmanship and influential global leadership. This visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana is the first in over three decades, underscoring its historical importance and the deepening partnership between the two democracies.
Expressing his profound gratitude on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi stated, “Honoured to be conferred with ‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’.” In his acceptance speech, he emphasized that the accolade was not merely a personal achievement but one he humbly accepted on behalf of the 1.4 billion people of India. He dedicated the honour to the aspirations and bright future of the youth of both countries, their rich cultural traditions, and the enduring historical ties between India and Ghana.
