Washington D.C.: The foreign ministers of the Quad grouping – comprising the United States, India, Japan, and Australia – today issued a strong condemnation of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which brutally claimed the lives of 26 civilians, predominantly tourists. In a joint statement, the Quad nations unequivocally called for the perpetrators, organizers, and financiers behind the heinous act to be swiftly brought to justice.
Dr. Jaishankar said during the meeting they discussed India-US bilateral partnership including trade, security, critical technologies, connectivity, energy and mobility, and “shared perspectives on regional and global developments”.
The April 22 massacre at the picturesque Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam saw terrorists open fire on unsuspecting civilians, leading to a tragic loss of life. Investigations in the Pahalgam terror attack subsequently revealed links between the attackers and Pakistan-based terror elements.
The joint statement from the foreign ministers underscored the Quad’s firm stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism. They extended their deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
The condemnation from the Quad comes in the wake of India’s robust response to the attack. On May 7, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor,’ a precision military operation that successfully targeted several terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This operation demonstrated India’s resolve to hold accountable those responsible for acts of terror against its citizens.
The unified message from the Quad nations highlights the international community’s shared commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring that such acts of violence do not go unpunished. The call for justice by these influential global powers sends a strong signal to those who support or facilitate terrorism.
