Indore: Becoming the first city in India to implement a special QR code-based digital house numbering system is another milestone for Indore, as the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh, undertakes it. This has officially started on June 29 as a pilot in Ward 82 within Zone 14 and is expected to change the manner in which civic services are accessed by the citizens.
In this system of innovation, every property will have its own QR code, which is also like a digital address. Upon being read by a smartphone, the QR code takes the viewer to a specific online webpage. The page has an array of public amenities which can easily be accessed, such as payments of electricity, water bills, filing of property tax, lodging of complaints and requesting of official papers/ documents or certificates with the blink of an eye.
Among the key highlights of the initiative, it is to be noted that it is free of charge. There is no fee that citizens should pay in order to register and use these services. As per Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, a small area is being rolled out on a pilot level, and there is an intention to cover at least 7 lakh properties all around the city in phases in the next few months using this digital address system.
The digital address use would be one of the components of the DigiPIN (Digital Personal Identification Number) program launched by the Government of India. Indore is the first city in the nation to have this system, and this serves as an example of smart city planning and urban governance.
The authorities are promoting the campaign through the tagline of: Naya Indore, Naya Pata- Digital Pata, and the aim here is to get rid of the long queues and physical access to the municipality offices. Citizens will now be able to avail of the numerous varieties of civic services with just one scan by the government, making the governance quicker, transparent and convenient.
