The hype surrounding an impending white-ball series between Australia and India has attained unprecedented levels as the third ODI of the proposed Australia-India series that will be played at the hallowed Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) has sold out a good four months in advance of the game. Cricket Australia has insisted that the general public sales of both the marquee cricket championship of Sydney and the opening T20I in Canberra have now run out, indicating astounding eagerness among the fans.
The main reason behind this furious demand is the timeless stardom of Indian cricket icons Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The two legends hardly ever see each other on the pitch now since they only feature in ODI games, and any game they are part of is worth watching. Both players are in the twilight of their glittering careers, so fans are exploiting every chance to see them play, especially abroad, such as in Australia.
To most of the followers, particularly the Indian diaspora in Australia, the Sydney ODI is not simply another cricket match. It is an opportunity to witness two of the best Indian cricketers (which might be the last time ever, because these people are getting old fast) playing at a historic ground. They have brought the nostalgic and celebratory touch to the tour, and the SCG clash is the emotional high point of this series.
Joel Morrison, the Executive General Manager of Events & Operations at Cricket Australia, on his part, recognised the trend by saying that their organisation was excited that there has been a high rate of turnout amongst the Indian community based on the opportunity to have great names like Rohit Sharma and Kohli play. Sydney ODI has the potential to be a blockbuster.
Like the Bharat Army and Fans India, who have already booked thousands of tickets, the local community organisations like the Brissy Baniyas and the Indian Community of Gold Coast are also building the carnival-like atmosphere expected at every venue.
