Raipur: Development of a 700-bed integrated hospital facility on the existing premises of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College, Raipur, has been stuck since the tender was not completed in the last six months. The Chhattisgarh Medical Services Corporation Limited (CGMSC), which was in charge of the project, floated the e-tender way back in December 2024 with the intention of opening it by the middle of January 2025. But the previous tendering has been aborted, and the tendering is taking place once again with the new system.
This future hospital construction, estimated at a cost of 231 Crore, will come with modern facilities of treatment with advanced and specialized departments of gynecology and pediatrics. The architecture and architectural planning of the structure are made ready by a firm based in Delhi, Prem Chaudhary Associates. The state government already has a budgetary provision for the project.
The new hospital is meant to take care of the increased pressure on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, which is the largest government hospital in Chhattisgarh. The influx of patients has grown by various factors over the years, causing a shortage of beds and spaces in the wards in various departments. Although a degree of expansion has occurred within the current scenario, it has not been sufficient to meet the increasing demands.
The new hospital is to be built where the two ageing hostel buildings behind the medical college campus will be. But these hostel buildings are still not demolished, though they are now in a bad condition. Demolition is the responsibility of the agency that wins the construction tender, and this is also the reason why nothing has been done yet.
Other departments such as psychiatry, dermatology, and ENT are also scheduled to be given a place in the new structure. When done, the hospital is likely to ease the pressure on the current infrastructure and serve patients better.
