Bhopal: The High Court of Madhya Pradesh has passed an interim directive in the raging row of employment procedure in the power distribution companies of the state. The court has put more than 2,000 direct appointment jobs under review, and the state government, Energy Department, and other concerned authorities have already been put under notice, asking them to respond in detail.

The Madhya Pradesh Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company Limited (MPPKVVCL) of Indore issued a recruitment advertisement on December 9, 2024. The recruitment was for over 2,000 vacancies in different state electricity and transmission companies, which included 818 vacancies of Office Assistants, 1196 vacancies of Line Attendants, and 237 vacancies of Junior Engineers, which also covered some other jobs like Assistant Law Officers, Assistant Managers, and Plant Assistants for Power Hiring. The online exam was held on 21 March 2025.

But the test was controversial after the answer key issued by the exam agency was supposed to have mismarked correct answers. An example was question 16, which was about the folk singer in Madhya Pradesh who is the recipient of the Padma Award, certified by his work in making the people familiar with the devotional songs of Kabir, Meera, and Gorakhnath in Malvi dialect. There was a wrong mark, which was supposed to be the right answer. Bheryu Singh Chauhan had his mark incorrect, and Kaluram Bamaniya was supposed to have his mark incorrect. Equally, Question 25 referred to the Union Minister of the MP who announced six new initiatives under the 100-day plan of the government in December 2024. Using the Kiren Rijiju as an answer key, which was wrong, instead of using the correct answer, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia.

Even when the candidates had raised a protest in written form and submitted the relevant documents with valid money, no amendment was undertaken. Such frustrated claimants as Arpit Sahu of Sagar, Ajay Keer, and Himanshu Sahu of Sehore went to the High Court demanding redressal.

The bench of Justice Vivek Jain has now directed notices to the Principal Secretary of the Energy Department, the CEO of MP online, and to MPPKVVCL Indore to state the response within a month and four days.
