Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has patted the back of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, praising his global leadership, saying he is a great asset to India because of his energy and dynamism. Tharoor wrote in an English daily after attending the multi-national diplomatic initiative of India, Operation Sindoor, that the readiness of Modi to connect with the outside world is an important aspect towards enhancing the mettle of India in the global scene, and that it should also be endorsed by leaders of other parties in general.
Tharoor, who headed an Indian delegation to the United States, Panama, Guyana, Colombia and Brazil, termed the experience as an eye-opener and a moment of national resolve. He stressed the nature of unity and bipartisan diplomacy, especially in the activities of worldwide efforts against terrorism. He said that the energy, dynamism and readiness to engage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was India s best asset in their global platform but which should receive more support.
In the formation of Operation Sindoor, which was triggered by the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, delegations that represented India made appearances in just 32 countries. It was aimed at building international opinion against terrorism, particularly following rising cross-border tensions with Pakistan.
Tharoor demonstrated his involvement in Washington, D.C, where even in the presence of Pakistani delegates, many issues involving terrorism in India were heard. We also found the US delegates that had met the Pakistani counterparts reiterating our sentiments with a clear action against terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, he wrote, an exhibition that was seen despite the presence of a Pakistani delegation at the same time.
Interestingly, the fact of Shashi Tharoor being included in the Operation Sindoor mission had left some internal flame in the Congress party, as his name was not included in the list, which was officially suggested by the party leader. Notwithstanding that criticism, the importance of his contribution to a diplomatic effect and his bipartisan appeal are currently widely discussed.
