The Punjab Police talked to Tinder for details on an account that might be connected to controversial Khadoor Sahib MP and Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh. The request is an important step in the ongoing probe of the Sikh activist Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau’s murder on October 9, 2023, while he traveled home from attending the Gurdwara in Tarn Taran district.
He was a member of the radical group ‘Waris Punjab De,’ whose leader is Amritpal Singh. Gaurav Yadav, Punjab’s Director General of Police, stated after the killing that the police believe Amritpal Singh was behind the murder and that he is currently jailed under the National Security Act (NSA). Authorities have already caught three members of Arsh Dalla’s Canada-based gang, who were linked to the murder as primary suspects.
The police believe that the Tinder profile ‘Amrit Sandhu’ might belong to Amritpal Singh. In a letter dated May 26, which was shared with a news agency, the Punjab Police is asking Tinder for important details about the account.
Subscriber information desired from the service includes their full name, details of birth, phone or email addresses, GPS, IP activity from January 1, 2019, and all files that have been added to the service such as pictures and videos. They have also requested information about the account’s messaging history, the names of friends and contacts, matches made, and other account or identity links that might assist in finding a link between the accounts.
The police think that analyzing the data on Amritpal’s account could help gather key information about him and his motive in the murder case. Investigations are currently still underway.
