There were two separate encounters in Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh, and during them, five Naxalites were killed. This raises the total number of rebels neutralised during the operation to seven. The region where the events took place was Indravati National Park, which is known as a strong Maoist area.
A senior police official explained that the operation, which began on June 4, counted on the involvement of officers from the Special Task Force (STF), District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the elite CoBRA unit of the Central Reserve Police Force. After hearing information about Sudhakar, a member of the Central Committee and Bhaskar alias Mailarapu Adellu, a leader from the special zonal committee of the Telangana State Maoists, the task was initiated.
Sudhakar was killed on Thursday after a reward of ₹40 lakh had been offered on his head, and Bhaskar, whose reward was ₹45 lakh, was gunned down on Friday. The two were essential players in Maoist campaigns in Chhattisgarh and Telangana. Taking out these members of the group weakens its leadership in the area.
Last Saturday, rescue teams found two more bodies after the exchange of fire, plus three bodies discovered earlier during the previous night’s operations. There were two women Maoists among those recent shootings, but their identities haven’t been verified yet.
Security forces found a big collection of weapons and ammunition, including two AK-47 rifles, pointing to how well prepared the Maoists were. Troops are carrying out further operations, looking for insurgents and trying to seize full control over the area.
A few security members were injured during the operation because of certain risks like snake bites, dehydration and honeybee stings, but all of them are getting care. Notably, this is after Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju, the general secretary of CPI (Maoist), was neutralised in Bastar.
